The Orange County of Middle America. An area of about 10 exclusive suburbs along Lake Michigan just north of Chicago. The area includes Evanston, Wilmette, Glenview, Northfield, Winnetka, Kenilworth, Glencoe, Northbrook, Deerfield, Highland Park, and Lake Forest. The area is most noted for it's extreme wealth, huge homes, and mothers who spend more time at the manicure salon than with their Land Rover driving children. It was infamized by the movie "Mean Girls" and is most noted for its tremendous wealth and 17 year olds driving their parent's lexus, bmw, or range rover. The North Shore of Chicago has its own culture, lifestyle, and traditions that only we know. We went to public school because they are better than the private ones. We may not have the ocean, but we certainly have beaches.
more random information:
Evanston - Home to Northwestern University (GO WILDCATS!), large, ritzy houses and nice cars. Evanston has an expansive downtown with plenty to do, if you've got the cash. See Panera, Borders, the Gap, Starbucks (any of the three), Urban Outfitters, the Keg (a notorious 18+ bar), Kafein (awesome coffee shop), and NU.
Wilmette - Located in the New Trier Township. Because it borders Evanston, it has a reputation of being the most ghetto of all New Trier towns. Truthfully, people in Wilmette are very wealthy, but not to the point of private jets/famous parents/mansions/etc that can be found in other parts of the New Trier Township. Wilmette is divided into four sections. The two main sections are East and West of the tracks. The east side is on the Lake, and the houses there are almost comparable to houses in the other New Trier towns. The west side is slightly less rich, getting less and less rich the farther west you go. Located in west Wilmette is what is known as Wilasia or the Wilmetto. Here is the "poorest" section of Wilmette.
Northfield - A rich white waspy suburb in the North Shore of Chicago. Teens attend Sunset Ridge School then New Trier High School driving around in BMW's and Mercedes wearing Abercrombie and American Eagle. There is little to no downtown, and most teens hang out in The Glen in Glenview. About 90% upper class although most live modestly, as if they were middle. But there are a few kids who get a mercedes and audis for their birthday. It's a pretty boring town that centers around a walgreens so most kids have to go to other towns on weekends.
Winnetka - An extremley wealthy town on the North Shore in Illinois. Winnetka is known for it's beautiful houses, expensive cars, and gorgeous clothes and people. One of the richest towns in America. This is considered one of, if not the best, place to live.
Kenilworth - Kenilworth is a very wealthy white christian suburb located along Lake Michigan in the north shore of Chicago. The residents have more money than they know what to do with. Most own multiple homes and a boat. Their children attend New Trier High School, one of the top three best high schools in Illinois. Not to mention one of the filthiest rich schools in the country, due to the fact they enroll over 4,000.
Glencoe - A small town, with a population of less that 10,000. This town is known for being a "brat town", with Range Rovers and BMW's roaming the streets freely. The children are nice and kind, but have a lot of cash.
Northbrook - A northern suburb of Chicago that was home to film director John Hughes who directed Sixteen Candles, Ferris Bueller's Day Off, and The Breakfast Club. Also made famous for being home to Glenbrook North High School where some high school girls decided to beat the hell out of eachother and call it a powder puff football game.
Highland Park - Where the lawns are emerald and the sky's blue and the beach is always calling your name. The money is so normal that a BMW is the equivelent to a Toyota. The expectations for kids are Ivy League, for the adults, doctor or lawyer or a highly respectable position. The gossip is hot but the kids are hotter. Summers are spent at sleepaway camp or at homes in the Hamptons, or fancy vacations. Winters are filled with trips to ski towns in Colorado and tropical vacations. Throughout seventh and eigth grade, bat/bar mitzvahs populate the weekends. To sum it up, ridiculously wealthy families, gorgeous kids, and tons of drama.
Lake Forest - "Old Money" is a term used most often to describe the residents, who generally occupy the largest mansions, which are on the lake, costing an average of $10 million a pop. It has police on every corner, a low crime rate, and very expensive clothing stores, places to shop, grocery stores, etc. To buy a small house in Lake Forest is at least $400,000. Expectations are high, and public education is amoung the best in country- Lake Forest High School delivers dozens of graduating students to the Ivy Leagues each year. Voted "best dressed women in America" but Elle Magazine several years running and "Best Places to Live- Most Affluent" by Money Magazine, Lake Forest boasts a town of beautiful, smart, and rich residents like no other place in the world.
IMPORTANT:
New Trier High School is the public high school where kids from Wilmette, Glencoe, Winnetka, and Kenilworth, most of Northfield, as well as small portions of Glenview, Northbrook, and Evanston would attend. Kids living in Northbrook and not attending NTHS would attend Glenbrook North High School. The kids living in Highland Park would have/will be attended/attending Highland Park High School and the kids in Lake Forest would attend Lake Forest High School. If you want your character to attend a private school, you can comment the moderators or research the area on your own to find a school in your character's area.
